Award of Science Excellence 2008

St. Finbarr's won the coveted Award of Science Excellence in the “Discover Primary Science” programme in June 2008. Pupils from all classes participated in this programme throughout the year.

Exciting Science experiments were carried out in each classroom, using the essential skills of Observation, Investigation, Estimation, Analysis, Prediction etc.

 

  • Activities included:
  • A visit to the Lifetime Lab;
  • A presentation on Energy Awareness by local Green Party Representative Quentin Gargan;
  • Competitions including Greenwave and K’nex etc.
  • A display demonstration by the pupils of their experiments.

Miss Buckley, our Science Co-ordinator and Mrs. Hurley together with a representative group of three pupils attended a special Award Ceremony on June 18th in Maryborough Hotel, Douglas to receive our Plaque and Certificates.

Science Open Day 2008

experiment_1st_imgOn 24 April 2008 we help a Science Open Day in our school to help us achieve the Award of Science Excellence. We have been carrying out a number of exciting and interesting Science experiments throughout the school over the past year and we decided to hold this Science Open Day to show the public how much we love Science. Each class displayed experiments they had carried out and explained how they worked and what they showed.

 

 

 

The experiments on display include:

  • How our lungs work?
  • Volcanoes
  • Magnetic Magic
  • Designing a bridge
  • Testing for Starch
  • Dancing raisins
  • Which paper absorbs best?
  • Making circuits
  • Absorption of sugar in water
